Preventive vs corrective maintenance of hydraulic cylinders
Preventive maintenance of hydraulic cylinders consists of scheduled checks and interventions (seal inspection, dimensional tolerance checks, rod condition checks) to prevent failures before they happen; corrective maintenance instead takes place after a failure or visible wear, to restore the cylinder's functionality. The choice between the two affects costs, downtime and the component's lifespan.
Preventive or corrective maintenance: the differences
- Preventive maintenance: scheduled periodic checks (dimensional tolerance verification, seal replacement based on operating hours or time, rod condition checks) to reduce the risk of unexpected failures and unplanned downtime
- Corrective maintenance: intervention following a failure or already visible wear (leaks, mechanical play, rod damage), to restore the cylinder's operation
