Dimensional tolerances and testing: what is checked on a hydraulic cylinder

Testing a hydraulic cylinder verifies that dimensional tolerances, seal integrity and operation under pressure meet the required standards before delivery. Nuova Emmebi Cilindri performs dimensional checks and final testing on every cylinder produced, standard or custom, to ensure reliability and compliance before it is put into service.

What is checked during testing

  • Dimensional tolerances: bore, stroke and rod diameter checked against the drawing or the relevant NFPA/JIC standard
  • Seal integrity: verification that there are no leaks under operating pressure
  • Operation under pressure: testing the cylinder at its declared maximum operating pressure (70 bar for the COL series, 210 bar for the COP series)

Our technical office follows the entire process, from CAD design to technical review, from dimensional checks to final testing - including for cylinders intended for certification with marine classification societies (RINA, Lloyd's Register, CCS).
